The Positive Side of Peer Pressure

Peer pressure isn’t always a bad thing. Just as peers can goad each other towards dangerous behaviors, peers can also impact motivation, willingness to work hard, and decision-making… in a good way. Your teen may be motivated to study more if he sees his friends making honor roll. Or your teen may work harder to improve her basketball game performance if she sees her teammate earn a starting position. Don’t be scared of peer pressure. Instead, encourage your teen to build positive relationships and a supportive social network. Remember, close friendships are a hallmark of adolescence.
