There Is No Time Limit on Building Identity

Pop quiz—by the end of which year of high school do you need to have your future figured out? The answer is “none of the above.” There is no time limit on building identity. It is something that will take place throughout a lifetime, with new pieces to the puzzle added as your child moves through the world, takes chances, and learns new things. Too many teens believe they need to have life figured out by the time they’re applying for college or the end of senior year. Tell them to relax: Identity is an untimed test.
