Seated Stress Relief

Quick check––how are you sitting? Is your back hunched over? Are you bending your neck towards your mobile device or computer? Sit up straight and take a deep breath. Much better, right? The reason is that slouching down compresses breathing, which impacts your ability to deal with stress. You can teach your teen to note their posture whenever they’re feeling stressed, and then straighten up and take a deep breath. They can also use this trick (straight back, deep breath) right before a test to reduce anxiety and center themselves. Think of it as seated stress relief.
