Encourage Interdependence

We talk a lot about independence but what about interdependence — our ability to connect with others and become mutually reliant? We want our teens to set off on their own journeys, but we also want them connected to family for the long haul. It’s not just that we’ll miss them if they go; we know that interdependence gives teens the confidence to set out on their own because they know people have their back. Moreover, interdependence looks towards the future, including the relationship you’ll share with your grownup child. There is strength in relationships, so encourage them to stay connected.
