School Rules #5

Parents

I hate school!” your teen snarls at you, as if their dislike of school is all your fault. Don’t tell them they’re wrong and school is cool. Your teen wants to talk (we’re serious!), and they’re pushing your buttons to get you to listen. So listen. Stop what you’re doing, put away your mobile device, and give your teen your undivided attention. You may need to ask questions and listen closely to get to the root of the problem, which may have nothing to do with academic work. When teens go to hyperbole-land, it’s your cue to really listen.
