Help Teens Through a Crisis

Crises can make us feel helpless, so it’s important to remember that you can actually be helpful to your teen when they’re in a period of stress. There are five steps within your teen’s control that they can use when they’re struggling to problem-solve and need to calm down. (1) Encourage them to set aside the issue for a moment and do something physical (movement combats stress), (2) breathe slowly, (3) think through the issue, (4) express their emotions, and (5) reach out. These steps can take them from chaos to calm so they can tackle their problems.
