Calm Conversations

Ever wonder why teens jump straight to hyperbole? It’s not because EVERYTHING IN LIFE ISN’T FAIR! It’s because their emotions are close to the surface because their brains are sponges for sensing and experiencing feelings. Which is actually a great thing overall. But how do you bring conversations back down to a useful, rational size because, you know, everything is NOT the end of the world? Check yourself and talk with – not at – your teens. Give them your thoughts in simple, manageable steps and ask their opinion on what you’re suggesting so you know that they’re hearing you. See, teamwork!
