Check Your Teen for Caffeine

Want to know why your teen isn’t getting enough sleep? It may be due to that frappuccino they grabbed while out with friends. Caffeine takes six to eight hours to leave the body, and it’s found in coffee, tea, soda, chocolate, and energy drinks. Teens that drink caffeinated beverages in the afternoon and evening may have trouble falling and staying asleep, leading to exhaustion the next day. But it’s not just drinks that contain stimulants. Cold medicines or ADHD medications can also interfere with sleep. Do a caffeine assessment with your teen, and talk to your pediatrician.
