Talk Early, Often, and Ongoing With Your Teen

Something happens. You need to speak with your teen about it. What happens next depends on how you’ve tackled conversations up to this point. You can’t go back in time, but you can move forward with this plan now. Have deep conversations early and often—not just when there is a problem. Talk about their goals and interests. All conversations—both good ones and hard ones—need to be ongoing. Trying to tackle everything in one fell swoop is a recipe for disaster. Talk early, often, and ongoing to keep the lines of communication open between you and your teen.
