What if you stop thinking of the glass as half-empty OR half-full, and instead consider whether there’s enough water inside to quench your thirst? Teach your teen not to be an optimist or a pessimist: It will serve them better when it comes to stress management if they’re a realist and can thoughtfully consider whether the figurative glass has enough water to meet their needs, and if not, how to figure out where the sink is so they can top it off. In other words, knowing when and how to ask for help means your teen can fill their glass.
