Stressful situations are inevitable, so give your teen five tools to cope with that stress. (1) Help them create a stress management plan so they know how they’ll deal with stress before it happens. (2) Teach them to take big problems and break them down into smaller, manageable parts. (3) Help them find a way to express their emotions, whether through art, writing , or talking things out. (4) Remind them to keep up physical strength by eating well and getting enough exercise and sleep. (5) Tell them it’s okay to avoid things sometimes, such as stressful places or people.
